University of Sopron International Students Shine Bright at End-of-Semester Talent Show!

The University of Sopron's vibrant international community wrapped up the semester in extraordinary style on December 4th! The International Affairs Office organized an end-of-semester talent competition and an exciting St. Nicholas celebration combined into one memorable event for their exceptionally gifted international students.

The Ligneum was packed to the rafters as Hungarian and international students alike gathered to cheer on their friends and peers. Following a pre-selection round, the very best performers took to the stage for the final. The talented contestants were judged by a distinguished five-member jury: Márta Sándor, former Senior International Coordinator; Lili Mészáros, Organizer of the University’s Cultural Programs; Prof. Dr. Balázs Kósa, Vice-Dean for Education at the Faculty of Wood Engineering and Creative Industry; Mihály Major, Communication Associate, TV and Radio Host; and Tamás Bross, President of the Student Union.

The University of Sopron has achieved a remarkable feat in the 2025 UI GreenMetric World University Rankings, a definitive global list for environmental protection and sustainability. The university has been named the 34th greenest university in Europe and the 99th in the world, improving its position by 11 places compared to last year!

Successful Professional Visit to Vietnam: The University of Sopron Gains New Strategic Directions

A delegation from the University of Sopron made a productive professional visit to Vietnam between November 17 and 24, where they visited three key partner institutions and companies: the Vietnam National University of Forestry (VNUF), the Vinafor corporation—Vietnam's largest timber industry company—and the WoodsLand timber company. The visit opened up new perspectives for collaborations in education, research, and industry, and laid the groundwork for long-term joint projects.

The University of Sopron Strengthened Its Regional Cooperation in Lower Austria

At the invitation of Prof. Dr Hannes Raffaseder, CEO of the St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences, six staff members from the University of Sopron visited the Austrian institution on 24 November 2025. During the study visit, the Hungarian experts gained an in-depth overview of the operations of St. Pölten University, which plays a pioneering role in the development of European higher education, as well as the work of the EUDRES European University Alliance it leads. The discussions focused on exploring opportunities for cooperation and identifying directions for joint development.

Cultural Values in Education – Supporting International Students at the University of Sopron

The University of Sopron places great importance on supporting its international students and helping them navigate cultural differences as they adapt to a new environment. As part of this commitment, the StudentHelp team of the International Office organized a workshop on intercultural understanding.
