Regional Cooperation for the Future: University of Sopron and MENDELU in Partnership

On February 5, 2026, the senior leadership and academic delegation of the University of Sopron visited Mendel University in Brno (MENDELU). The meeting aimed to strengthen ties between the two institutions and define key areas for joint development, with a particular focus on forestry cooperation, digital education, and internationalization. 

This visit to Brno marks a significant milestone in an ongoing successful collaboration: representatives from MENDELU previously visited Sopron in 2025 as part of the "Czech Autumn" program series. This partnership is a result of conscious, long-term planning, regarded by both parties as a relationship of strategic importance. 

Record Number of Applications at the University of Sopron: Stipendium Hungaricum Records

The English-language programmes at the University of Sopron are seeing more interest than ever before. For the upcoming 2026/27 academic year, the number of students applying through the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Programme has nearly doubled compared to last year. If we look back over the past five years, the number of applicants has actually grown to more than four times its original size - a fantastic confirmation that our international strategy is truly working.

Saving Forests via Geobioinformatics: A Breakthrough at Sopron

In an era of climate change and emerging diseases, science must evolve to the next level. Researchers at the University of Sopron have developed a unique approach: by merging geoinformatics and bioinformatics, they are now able to not only pinpoint where a forest is struggling but also seek remedies at a molecular level. This field, referred to as "geobioinformatics," is considered a pioneering discipline even on an international scale.
