On April 13, 2026, against the iconic backdrop of Cardiff Castle, the university was presented with the Green World Environment Award Global Silver. For twenty years, this award has been granted to the world’s greenest and most sustainable companies, universities, and communities.

Spring Break in Nature: International Students Explore Local Treasures

As part of the University of Sopron’s efforts to make the spring break both relaxing and enriching, the International Office organized a special excursion for international students, combining nature, culture, and community experiences.

The highlight of the program was the ceremonial opening of the Várhely Lookout Tower, attended by distinguished guests upon the invitation of Tanulmányi Erdőgazdaság Zrt. (TAEG). The event offered students a unique opportunity to take part in a significant local occasion while enjoying the breathtaking panorama of the surrounding landscape.

Peer Supporters in Action: Easter Egg Hunt Brings Students Together

As the spring break approaches, the University of Sopron is not only encouraging students to relax and recharge, but also to immerse themselves in local traditions and community experiences. In this spirit, the international peer supporters once again proved their dedication and creativity by organizing a cheerful Easter-themed program for students.

With the support of the International Office, the peer supporters hosted a lively Easter egg hunt, offering both Hungarian and international students a chance to connect, have fun, and learn more about local customs. The event centered around the traditional Easter egg hunt, where participants searched for chocolate eggs hidden across campus, creating a joyful and festive atmosphere.

Zalán Rókus Zagyva, a young forest engineering student and researcher at the University of Sopron, is currently expanding his professional and cultural horizons in South America. Supported by the Pannónia Scholarship Program, Zalán is spending his spring semester (from February 15 to May 4, 2026) conducting research in Curitiba, Brazil.

On March 24, a special festive atmosphere filled one of the community spaces at the University of Sopron. International students from Central and East Asia, together with the International Office team, came together to celebrate the beginning of the Asian New Year. In many parts of the world – especially in Central Asia – this period marks the start of a new year, so the event was not only about traditions but also about bringing people closer to each other.
