The University of Sopron officially opened the 2026/2027 academic year with a festive ceremony, welcoming  new  students to another year of university life.

The ceremony brought together students, university leaders, faculty members, guests and representatives of the city. This year, the international character of the University was especially visible: international students arrived from more than 50 countries, including Kazakhstan, Angola, Mozambique, Indonesia, South Africa, Kenya, Mongolia, Tadjikistan and India, and lot of other countries. Erasmus+ students also joined the ceremony, many of whom will spend one or two semesters at the University of Sopron as part of their studies abroad.

At the same time, the University welcomed a record number of new Hungarian students. Around 1,850 first-year Hungarian students are beginning their studies this year across the University’s four faculties – an encouraging sign of the continuing attractiveness of the University of Sopron among young people.

The programme included a blessing, award ceremonies recognising outstanding achievements, and a surprise flash mob, which added a lively and memorable moment to the formal occasion.

For many students, this ceremony marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter – whether they are starting their full degree at the University of Sopron or spending just a semester or two here as an Erasmus student.

With students arriving from all over Hungary and from more than 50 countries around the world, the new academic year once again begins with a strong sense of community, diversity and new opportunities.

Welcome to the University of Sopron, and we wish all our students a successful and memorable academic year!
