In June 2025, Hungary hosted for the first time the international conference series Conference on Geometry: Theory and Applications, which this year celebrated its 10th anniversary. The organizers chose the University of Sopron as the venue for this jubilee event — a significant recognition of the Hungarian higher education institution by the scientific community of geometry. The event, titled CGTA 2025, was held over five days in the City of Loyalty.
Around 80 participants attended the conference from various countries around the world. Within Europe, researchers arrived from, among others, Spain, Poland, Lithuania, Italy, France, Switzerland, Bulgaria, and neighboring countries, while more distant regions — including South Korea, China, Japan, and Costa Rica — were also represented.
The conference organizing committee was formed through the collaboration of three Hungarian universities. The efforts of Dr. László Németh, head of institute and associate professor at the University of Sopron, were supported during the preparations by researchers from Eszterházy Károly University in Eger and the Budapest University of Technology and Economics.
The program featured 68 presentations compressed into five days, covering various fields of basic and applied geometry. The conference focused on geometry rather than general mathematical topics. In addition to mathematicians, researchers from other scientific disciplines — such as computer science, engineering, and industrial design — who successfully apply geometric methodology also gave presentations.
The scientific program encompassed topics such as computer-aided geometric design, computational geometry, differential geometry, discrete geometry, geometric computing, isogeometric analysis, robotics, and kinematics. Special emphasis was placed on interdisciplinary applications where geometry and engineering practice intersect.
Independent mini-symposia, led by distinguished international researchers, were also an integral part of the conference.
The event was significant not only from a scientific point of view but also provided an important opportunity for international networking for the University of Sopron, further strengthening the institution's presence in the international network of theoretical and applied research.
