The University of Sopron is proud to announce that Abdalrahman Ahmed, a third-year PhD candidate at the Institute of Geomatics and Civil Engineering, Faculty of Forestry, has been selected as the DOSZ Ambassador representing the Sudanese PhD student community in Hungary for the 2025/2026 academic year.
The official inauguration of the new DOSZ Ambassadors took place during the Spring Wind Conference, hosted by Semmelweis University in Budapest from 20–22 June 2025. This appointment reflects the growing emphasis of the Doctoral Student Association of Hungary (DOSZ) on strengthening the international academic environment and fostering integration among foreign doctoral candidates across Hungarian universities. There are currently 60 Sudanese PhD students enrolled in higher education in Hungary, 11 of whom are studying at the University of Sopron.
In a personal statement, Abdalrahman Ahmed shared:
“As the Sudanese ambassador, I am committed to supporting international PhD students, particularly those from Sudan, by facilitating access to academic resources, promoting scientific engagement, and contributing to cultural and social integration. I am also particularly interested in developing initiatives that promote international collaboration, enhance student well-being, and strengthen mental health support among international researchers.
Thank you for your continued support to the international students at the University of Sopron.”
The University of Sopron’s International Office has already initiated collaborative discussions with Mr. Ahmed to plan future programs and projects aimed at further enriching the academic and social experience of international doctoral students.
This recognition is not only a personal achievement for Mr. Abdalrahman but also a testament to the University of Sopron’s active engagement in internationalization and academic diplomacy.
