The University of Sopron (UoS) has provided further evidence that it can compete with the international leaders in applying Artificial Intelligence in education. The institution was represented by two of its staff members at a prestigious international AI-themed conference held in China, making it the only Hungarian university to receive an invitation to the high-profile November event.

Dr. Laura Sinóros-Szabó, Advisor and Project Expert, and Dr. Gergő Vida, Senior Research Fellow, represented the University of Sopron at the "Effective, Inclusive and Ethical Artificial Intelligence in Education (AIED)" conference, which took place in Zhuhai from November 11–16, 2025.

The event, held as part of the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) ASEFClassNet18 program, aims to connect educators, researchers, and teacher trainers from Europe and Asia. The conference was backed by influential international institutions, including the Beijing Normal University, the Association of Southeast Asian Teacher Education Network, the International Research Centre on Artificial Intelligence (UNESCO), and the Jožef Stefan Institute.

Participants explored themes critical to the future of higher education, ranging from ethical AI use to improving the efficiency of learning processes.

As part of this international collaboration, experts from Asia and Europe are jointly developing scientific research materials that will be published in the United Nations University's book series on Artificial Intelligence and Sustainable Development in the first half of 2026. The University of Sopron's authors are thus directly contributing to the internationally recognized academic discourse that examines the ethical, inclusive, and effective application of artificial intelligence in the field of education.

In recent years, artificial intelligence has become a priority area of operation at the University of Sopron. The institution aims to become the domestic and international frontrunner in the introduction of AI-based educational solutions in Hungary. To achieve this, it works with globally influential partners such as the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, the Beijing Normal University in China, and the University College London in the UK. These connections provide the university’s faculty and students with firsthand access to the latest technological and pedagogical developments.

The upcoming book publication is expected to further enhance the international visibility and academic performance of the University of Sopron, particularly the Benedek Elek Faculty of Pedagogy. This not only strengthens the institution's professional prestige but also helps to ensure that innovative, AI-supported methods become increasingly prominent in the university's education, benefiting both the future generations of students and teachers.
