At the invitation of Prof. Dr Hannes Raffaseder, CEO of the St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences, six staff members from the University of Sopron visited the Austrian institution on 24 November 2025. During the study visit, the Hungarian experts gained an in-depth overview of the operations of St. Pölten University, which plays a pioneering role in the development of European higher education, as well as the work of the EUDRES European University Alliance it leads. The discussions focused on exploring opportunities for cooperation and identifying directions for joint development.
EUDRES is an entrepreneurial-minded university alliance bringing together institutions from five European countries. Its mission is to address regional challenges based on the ideas and perspectives of European students. Since its foundation, the alliance has aimed to become a driving force in building smart, sustainable European regions. It works toward forward-looking goals, including helping small and medium-sized European cities transform into sustainable, smart cities.
As Hungary’s Green University, the University of Sopron finds the alliance’s priority focus areas particularly appealing: sustainability, smart regional development, healthy lifestyles and wellbeing, social inclusion, digitalisation and applied deep-tech technologies, resilient economies and innovation, and the creative industries.
A closer partnership in the future will give University of Sopron students the opportunity to work in international teams on regional challenges, as well as to test and compare their academic knowledge with peers from partner institutions abroad.
As the next step in building this cooperation, the University of Sopron is planning another visit to St. Pölten in early 2026, where the leaders of the two institutions are expected to define specific areas of collaboration and launch joint projects.
