On September 4, 2025, the University of Sopron hosted its very first Orientation Day, an event designed to become a new tradition – and it was immediately a great success among first-year students.
In the afternoon following the official opening of the academic year, Hungarian and international freshmen had the chance to discover the diverse communities, organizations, and services available at the university. While participants of the freshman weeks had already received plenty of useful information, Orientation Day broadened their horizons even further.
Students enjoyed lively programs, games, and personal interactions: quizzes to test their knowledge, a folk dance performance, informal discussions with the university chaplain, and meetings with representatives of the Student Government.
The Student Services Center provided on-the-spot answers to academic questions, while the International Office attracted particular attention.
“Currently, more than 200 international students study at the University of Sopron, and almost all of them visited our stand, even creating a small traffic jam outside the main building,” said Csilla Csipkó, International Coordinator.
Students received information about the Pannónia Scholarship Program, the Student Help services, and the mentor network. They could also win prizes in geography and culture quizzes and hear first-hand experiences from students recently returned from China.
The Student Support Services and Peer Helpers introduced their assistance programs, offering help with mental health, social, academic, or personal issues. Other exhibitors included the Hungarian Forestry Association, the University Library (offering free registration on the spot), and the university sports center, which opened its doors to sports enthusiasts.
In total, around 35 organizations were present to welcome the university’s new students. Orientation Day also served as a warm-up for the next big events on 5 September:
-
During the day, our Sports Day, where freshmen can try out different sports and clubs.
-
In the evening, the University Days Music Festival (SEN) kicks off, ensuring entertainment and community building.
